Homestead happenings

Well, we now have a basement. The changing seasons show what our home will look out onto throughout the year and I love all of them so far. The soon to be snowfall will not be so awesome to live in but will be pretty to look at from the windows. We have changed the original plans and layout for the homestead a few times now, for the better we hope. We have decided to go with a good sized "prepper kitchen" downstairs. This will be the place we can make a mess preserving the harvest ( canning, dehydrating, bottleing, and butchering the meat). I like the idea of NOT doing this in my kitchen I actually cook in thank you very much, as the processing of food is time consuming and messy.
The lumber to begin building got moved from the bottom of the hill today, up to the cellar hole. It seems we need another tarp or two to cover the piles and keep the ice and snow off till we can start. We also moves the cabinets into the cellar and covered them as well. We need to move and cover the windows for the cellar next.
We did a walk through of the cleared hill and driveway area and have decided to use Hugelkulter garden beds and swales to help stop erosion and have a permaculture orchard and garden area. Low maintainance, low watering needs, longer grow season...what's not to love?
