Special Places

"Maiden's Eyes"
By Russet
Maiden's eyes cast down , lie veiled in her magic.
Pools of amber upon pools of azure.
Stillness enfolds this hidden grove,
And the world is quiet.
Whispering Willow murmers of her dreams to Maiden.
It's leafy fingers trail to the pool to twist and wrap about it's stillness.
Maiden's eyes fair and bright find the darkened sky.
And night shares it's peace with her.
Calm flows inward, still and hushed.
Enraptured with Amber eyes.
Languid waters caress Maiden,
Dulcet tones, softly sing it's dreams of Maiden's Amber Eyes.
Maiden's eyes, mantled in her magic.
Opulescent fires upon cobalt tide.
Stillness entwines this hidden soul.
And the world is quiet.

Altars, altars, everywhere...

The Wanderings of Oisin
by W.B.Yeats

We danced to where in the winding thicket
The damask  roses, bloom on bloom,
Like crimson meteors hang in the gloom,
And bending over them softly said,
Bending over them in the dance,
With a swift and friendly glance
From dewey eyes: 'Upon the dead
Fall the leaves of other roses,
On the dead dim earth encloses:
But never, never on our graves,
Heaped beside the glimmering waves,
Shall fall the leaves of damask roses.
For neither Death nor Change come near us,
And all listless hours fear us,
And we fear no dawning morrow,
Nor the grey wandering osprey Sorrow.'

"Charge of the Goddess"
by Doreen Valiente
Hear ye the words of the Star Goddess;
she in the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven,
and whose body encircles the Universe.
I who am the beauty of the green earth,
and the white Moon among the stars,
and the mystery of the waters,
and the desire of the heart of man,
call unto thy soul.
Arise, and come unto me.
For I am the soul of nature, who gives life to the universe.
From me all things proceed,
and unto me all things must return;
and before my face, beloved of Gods and of men,
let thine innermost divine self be enfolded in the rapture of the infinite.
Let my worship be within the heart that rejoiceth;
for behold,
all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals.
And therefore let there be beauty and strength,
power and compassion, honour and humility,
mirth and reverence within you.

Blessed Be

Log shed/planting update

The 1st part of the move is getting a place to put our tools. So a shed needed to be built. A strong, and no cost option, was a small log cabin. We have lots of pine timber needing to be moved or taken down. We have done a bit of work on it over the last couple weekends and we're about halfway there. This will probably the 1st of a few such cabins, as the goats and chickens will need pens and shelters as well as the soon to be moved tools. We will also need a woodshed for the firewood that we've been cutting for next winter. The girls, Thing 1 and Thing 2, have been working hard learning how to build a notched end log shelter.
The other part of the move has been the orchard getting into it's new home. The Hansen's cherry bushes have been moved, as well as the bush apricots (yumm)!. The rhubarb seems to be doing well and is peeking up out of the mulch. Stone walls are terracing the hill where the shrub orchard is being re-planted. (Oh our aching backs and other parts!) Old fashioned roses are being transplanted for the rose hips they will produce along the the stone lined drive-way. The bees will like the flowers as much as I do.

  1.    I'm not sure where the ground cherries are going to go and run wild, but I can't wait to harvest them this fall! The Hyssop, chives, Egyptian onions, and sage are also coming with us to their new beds soon. Perhaps as soon as the middle of this week. Our plans are to replant trees every year that can be used for firewood or provide edibles in the wild. Beech, Oak, Hazelnut, Black Walnut, Sugar Maples, and large spreads of Poplar are all native here in N.H.. Elderberry , wild roses, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and crab apples will go wild out there too.Once the house is built, I'd like to plant a couple Paw-Paw's and a few American Chestnuts nearby as well... maybe the kidlets will get to enjoy those fruits someday, but we will probably be long gone on by then.

the cabin to be...

So the planning stages have been going well and this looks like the house we would like to build onto the small cottage/shed we will be moving to the new homestead. It's easily within our price range, build-able by us, and certainly fits into the beautiful setting it will be moving to. As the kidlets move on, this size home will be good for up-keep and cleaning. It will be energy efficient, and easy to heat with a wood stove. And with the plans we have for 12v/propane appliances, on demand heat for water, solar panel/battery/propane/wind power, the cost to live here off- grid will be minimal. The woods will be inside the house, with the floor to roof windows, on the prow front.  This is going to be a good move, I think.
We will be keeping chickens, rabbits, and goats here, along with the bees. Keeping everyone but the bees OUT of the garden will be a chore, but worth it! Our small orchard is coming with us as well. I can't wait!

New Home

                                                                     "My Lover"
  by Lady Russet

A silver tongue aflame in light,
I watch the rivers course.
Through entangled woodlands and deep shade.
Long fingers touch its source.
Mirror for the sky, to see
A-shine, a flood of light
Colors tremble upon the lips
Of a glossy wave in flight...
Diamond hard and diamond bright at moonlights glance
Droplets glint upon me
Blackness enshrouds in moons caress
Warmed hands wander free.
That sylvan flood, my lover is
And never far I roam.
Amongst the reeds and tangled lilies.
This river is my home.
